If you just want to see the stones

A standard daytime visit is the simpler option if all you want is to see Stonehenge from the path around the circle, without the longer day or the evening timing.

If you want to be inside the circle

Standing inside the ring, rather than viewing it from the path, is only possible through a special access arrangement like this one, since daytime admission doesn't include entry past the rope line.

The rest of the day is part of the package

This tour isn't only about Stonehenge: Avebury, Silbury Hill and West Kennet Long Barrow are all included on the way, which makes for a fuller day if you're only visiting Wiltshire once.

Travel is handled for you

The return coach from central London means you don't need to arrange your own transport to a site that sits well outside the city, on Salisbury Plain.

Time of day changes the experience

An evening visit, after the day's crowds have gone, is a different experience from a midday visit when the site is busiest — worth weighing if quiet matters more to you than daytime flexibility.

Mobility and pace

The evening tour involves several separate walks across grass and uneven ground over a long day, and isn't suitable for anyone with mobility impairments, which a short standalone visit may suit better.
